Periods of history are defined through technological, sociological, political and economic movements that are consequently expressed, defined and/or directed through contemporary art. The “I Movement” is a direct response to the “Me” generation of the late 20th century that celebrated individual expression but also became flawed with self-indulgence and self-centeredness. The “I Movement” is a more enlightened evolution of self-awareness thinking focusing more on individual responsibility, expression and control as the acting agent “I” rather than the recipient of action to “me.” The difference of philosophical application is as simple as “I am in control” versus “what are you doing for me.”

The “I Movement” celebrates our individualism rebelling against the corporate mass production in our society. The unique individual is being threatened by the current mass corporatization and homogenization of our society. As a consequence, contemporary artists throughout the world are rebelling against the forced genericism by celebrating our uniqueness as human beings and artists. I am unique.

The “I Movement” also celebrates our newly created independence brought out by the digital revolution. The innovation of digital technology is revolutionizing business, industry and society while creating a newfound global economy and awareness. The Arts industry is one of the leaders of the independent revolution allowing the individual full control of their art from creation to distribution. As a consequence, the philosophical and technological trends that focus and empower the individual is revolutionizing modern thinking, commerce and art while each of these trends are being expressed through contemporary art - music, film, visual, performance and literature. I am in control.

While the “I Movement” celebrates individuality and independence, the philosophy understands the power and importance of the individual being a part of the global community and economy. The “I Movement” promotes a fulfilled and empowered individual that creates a fulfilled and empowered global society and community. I am global.

It is with the “I Movement” premise, we would like to invite you to join the independent revolution to share, promote and give organization to the independent revolution through the “I Movement.”
