Graham Weber on the Songwriters Series
There are just certain people who look and act like a songwriter. Woody Russell is one. England’s Michael Weston King is one. Matt the Electrician. Megan Melara. Chelle Murray. Of course, Townes Van Zandt was definitely one. (I’m rambling through my charred memory cells. Sorry. I’ll get to the point.) And Graham Weber. It’s that understated, story-telling, lonesome and mysterious cowboy that then vanishes into the night type of persona that gives these types the “songwriter” mystique and status. Graham Weber has that presence which is why we dedicated an entire show to his performance. It also helps when good camera work and great audio come into play for excellent broadcast but Graham’s presence and performance exemplifies the songwriter’s spirit. Which is why we do what we do. The songwriter who writes all of those hits that we love to hear is usually some unsung hero behind another performer’s fame that really nobody knows. Like Bobby Boyd or Susan Gibson or Bill Carter. You know their songs. You bought them but 99% of the people out there go – Oh Yeah, Garth Brooks, the Dixie Chicks and Stevie Ray Vaughn. And the few of us go, uh, no. They just sang it. Not that their participation isn’t necessary because it is and songwriters love ‘em. It’s just that the songwriters are completely ignored in the public’s view of the artistic process which is why we do what we do – promote and celebrate the songwriter. And Graham Weber does a damned fine job at his job as well as his 120 songwriting colleagues have done over the past four seasons on the Songwriters Series Internet TV show. So click on that thar link over thar and watch a songwriter’s songwriter on the Songwriters Series songwriting show. How’s that for pontificating and alliteration? ![]()
Oh, songwriters also like to drink beer. Beer. Frosty cold beer. (I’m doing my Homer Simpson voice right now while getting thirsty.)
